Discover one of Europe's most breathtakingly romantic coastlines here in Southern Italy. Dividing mountains and sea, the Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana) stretches for around 50km.
In 1997 the Amalfi Coast earned its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a cultural landscape. And deservedly so... the colourful plethora of painted buildings, the rocking boats in clear turquoise waters, open top cars winding through hilltop roads, bright blue skies and the smell of fragrant lemon groves are truly picture perfect!
Enjoy the local cuisine and sea air at one of the many restaurants offering fresh fish, handmade pasta and real Italian pizza. Don't miss the adventures at the Emerald Grotto, named so after its vibrant water colours, it is only accessible by boat. Back on dry land, take a visit to the Cathedral of Amalfi.
Positano, where many of the luxury villas reside, is a beautiful village nestled in the hilltops offering stunning views leading down to the coast. Popularly known as the coast's most expensive and photographed town it's easy to see why both locals and tourists are drawn here. Take a visit further inland just above Positano to Ravello, well known for its music festivals.
The famous town of Sorrento is on the south west coast of the peninsular and is a delight for tourists offering beaches, cobbled streets paved with vibrant bars and restaurants, boutique designer shops, antique, and craft shops. Gorgeous views of Mount Vesuvius and Naples, Sorrento is also easily accessible for day trips to Pompeii in around 40 minutes. You can also take a trip over to the beautifully picturesque island of Capri, a fashionista's paradise, it is a mecca for designer shops and fine restaurants.
The history on the Amalfi Coast wasn't always sunshine and holidays, an old fishing village, it experienced many an intrusion from foreign invasions, earthquakes and landslides. However it was this very declination of activity that enticed visitors in the early 1900's to the coast for quiet seclusion. Now, well established as ones of Italy's top tourist destinations!
