Mallorca, also known as Majorca, is the largest island in the Balearics and home to the capital, Palma. A small island, you can drive from one side to the other in just over an hour, making it the ideal destination to get out and explore the world-renowned beaches, coves and countryside.
Palma itself is full of charm, no less in the magnificent 14th Century Gothic Cathedral centred at the heart of this bustling city. Surrounding this majestic landmark, you will find plenty of upmarket shops, restaurants and bars, Arabic baths, and an inspiring collection of art work created by artists drawn to the hedonistic island life. There is a vibrant art scene with plenty of museums, galleries, and even contemporary dance and classical music festivals throughout the year. Beach bars and restaurants are a plenty and be sure to check out Las Terrazas beach club in Illetes (10 minutes drive from Palma), known as one of the best on the island with sea views from their sun terrace.
A slightly quieter island than its sister, Ibiza, there is still a vibrant night life around the island, especially in the Western area of Magaluf. With clubs and beach parties galore, it's not for the faint hearted. Stroll down to the beach and you will also find the uber cool Wave House, which is the first leisure venue of its kind in Europe and fifth in the world. For surfers and amateurs, it is a great place for people of all ages to get wet and test out their skills on the artificial waves! The entrance is free, although it is advisable to check out their events page in case of an event such as a surf contest or live music, where tickets may need to be purchased. Surrounded by bars, restaurants, swimming pool, chill out area and shops, there is something for everyone! If you'd like to earn your PADI divers qualification or just have a go, Norway Dive is Mallorca's leading diving centre.
If you haven't had enough of the blue stuff, grab your bathers and get down to one of the water parks on the island. There is Western Waterparks in Magaluf, Aqualand Waterpark in S'Arenal, Hidropark in Port d'Alcudia or for a spot of sea life, head to the Palma Aquarium in Palma de Mallorca or Marine Land (Spain's answer to SeaWorld) in Portos Nous.
For those seeking more adventure, there are some fantastic opportunities for yacht charter or boat trips and if you're in Palma de Mallorca in August you can even catch the world renowned Kings Cup Sailing Regatta. When the regatta isn't on, you can sit back and relax enjoying the glamour of super yachts and 21 golf courses. Luxurious yet authentic, you can experience delicious local tapas to Michelin star restaurants.
Once over your sea legs, hop on a bike or go for a walk and explore the many beautiful trails, such as the Cabrera Archipelago National Park, an island south of Mallorca or opt for one of the many nature reserves around Mallorca itself. For a fun day out visit the Safari Zoo on the East coast or La Reserva located in Puig de Galatzo to the West of Mallorca. Open between March and November, La Reserva is like an adventure playground for adults and children alike and you can see why the locals call it 'Mallorca's Paradise'!
For more serious nature lovers, the dramatic Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the North West and is fantastic for hiking and cycling. Also on the North West coast, you will find Soller, a small arty town, which is home to the architect, Gaudi's, church.
With all the activities and sunshine, you'll be in need of a siesta in no time, so have a sneak peak at some of our exclusive villas for somewhere to rest your head in preparation for the evening's entertainment!
